Curved parts are where flat-bed sanders give up. An arched door rail, a radius corner, a serpentine drawer front, a bent lamination — anything with a changing profile needs an abrasive that conforms to the shape instead of flattening it. That is exactly what brush sanding was invented for: flexible abrasive flaps backed by brushes follow the contour under light, even pressure, so the profile keeps its crispness while the surface comes up smooth.
A rigid pad bridges a concave curve and digs into a convex one — the classic cause of flat spots and burn-through on curved work. A brush head does the opposite: the flap tips deflect into hollows and ease over crowns, cutting with the tip of the abrasive rather than the face. Run at the right speed, that means uniform scratch patterns across the whole profile, whether you are knocking down raised grain after machining, denibbing sealer, or softening a routed edge before finish.
The QT2 is the two-head curved part machine: parts pass between opposed brush heads, which is the right configuration when your work is mostly one profile family and throughput matters more than wrap-around coverage. The QT4 adds heads on four sides, finishing all faces of a curved part in a single pass — the machine to look at when parts are handled once and need to come out done, such as arched components, curved legs and bent rails. Three questions size a curved-part machine faster than any spec sheet. First, part geometry: how tight is your smallest inside radius? That sets the brush diameter and flap length you can use. Second, material and stage: raw hardwood after CNC needs a different grit sequence than sealer denibbing — most curved-part work runs coarse-to-fine across 120 to 320 grit with abrasive flap and brush combinations. Third, volume: parts per day determines whether a pass-through machine pays for itself against hand work; at production volume it usually does within the first finishing hire you do not make.
