QuickWood FAQ
Everything you need to know about brush sanding machines, flap wheels, and working with QuickWood North America.
Machine Selection
A brush sanding machine uses rotating brushes loaded with abrasive flap strips to sand, texture, and finish wood and metal surfaces. Unlike belt sanders, brush sanders follow the grain of the wood, handle contoured profiles, and produce a more natural, consistent finish. QuickWood machines are the gold standard in industrial brush sanding.
A belt sander uses a flat abrasive belt moving in one direction, which can leave cross-grain scratches and struggles with contoured surfaces. A brush sander uses flexible abrasive flaps on a rotating brush that naturally follows the surface, sands with the grain, and handles curved and profiled pieces that would be impossible on a belt sander.
The right machine depends on your parts, throughput, and finishing goals. For flat panel sanding, the Pro 800-1400 series is a workhorse. For edge profiling, the QTM1 or QT series. For molded profiles, the CD2-300 or CD4/200. For door sanding, the RO 800/1300. Call us at 1-866-888-5858 for a free machine consultation — we have been matching machines to shops since 1990.
Yes. QuickWood offers machines specifically designed for metal deburring, surface conditioning, and polishing, including the QLC CNC Controlled Metal Polishing Machine and the QLT Cylindrical Polishing and Brushing machine. Many customers use the same platform for both wood and metal applications with different brush configurations.
The numbers refer to the working width in millimeters. The Pro 800 handles parts up to approximately 800mm (31") wide, while the Pro 1400 handles parts up to 1400mm (55") wide. Choose based on the maximum width of the parts you are sanding. Both use the same Quick-Strip brush and abrasive system.
Brush Types & Abrasives
QuickWood uses a proprietary Quick-Strip brush system. Each brush is made up of individual abrasive flap strips inserted into a slotted hub. Different flap materials are available for different applications: standard abrasive flaps for general sanding, Tynex nylon filament brushes for light distressing, twisted steel brushes for heavy distressing, and wire brushes for aggressive grain raising.
Start coarser and work finer. For initial sanding or sealer sanding, P80–P120 is typical. For final finish sanding before staining, P150–P180. For between-coat sanding, P220 and up. The Flap Wheel Selector tool on our website guides you through grit selection based on your material and finish goal.
Brush life depends on the material being sanded, the grit, the feed speed, and the RPM. In a high-volume cabinet shop running 8 hours a day, a set of Quick-Strip brushes might last 3–6 months. Abrasive strips can be replaced individually, making the system very economical compared to replacing full abrasive belts.
Maintenance
QuickWood machines are designed for industrial use and require minimal maintenance. Key tasks: (1) Clean dust from the machine and motor vents daily. (2) Check and replace abrasive strips when worn. (3) Inspect belt tension on conveyor models monthly. (4) Lubricate bearings annually. Technical manuals are available on our Technical Resources page.
Individual Quick-Strip abrasive flaps can be replaced without removing the entire brush. This is one of the key advantages of the QuickWood system — you never have to replace an entire belt when one section wears out. Replacement strips are available through quickwood.com.

Flap Wheels
A flap wheel is a disc-shaped abrasive tool made of overlapping abrasive flap strips arranged around a central hub. They are used for sanding curved surfaces, inside profiles, and contoured parts. QuickWood flap wheels are available in multiple diameters, slot counts, grit sizes, and trim heights. They are sold separately at flap-wheels.com.
The trim height is the length of the abrasive flap. A 65mm trim height gives more flex and reach, making it suitable for deeper profiles and curves. A 45mm trim height is stiffer and more aggressive, better for flatter surfaces or lighter finishing work.
Replacement flap wheels, Quick-Strip abrasive strips, and all QuickWood consumables are available at flap-wheels.com, the dedicated consumables site for the QuickWood system.
